Europe Day held in Beijing

On May 9, the Embassy of the Czech Republic celebrated Europe Day at the EU Delegation in Beijing. Every year, on this day, Europeans come together to celebrate peace and unity across Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration of 1950, when the former French foreign minister Robert Schuman proposed a joint authority to oversee French and German production of coal and steel, launching an ambitious and remarkable project which has shaped the course of European history and redefined Europe's place in the world.

Representatives of China and the 28 EU Member States gathered at the Delegation of the European Union to China to celebrate unity in diversity. EU member states displayed and served traditional food and drinks not only to their EU partners but also to the wider diplomatic community based in Beijing.

The Czech Embassy provided traditional salty snacks, sweet buns („buchty“), beer and famous herbal liqueur Becherovka. During the reception held in the garden, visitors had opportunity to taste food prepared by chefs of Vltava restaurant, which is set to open a brand-new restaurant in Beijing in June 2018.
