Magdalena Kožená and La Cetra Barockorchester Basel performed in China

Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. These four Chinese cities welcomed the famous Czech mezzo sopranos Magdalena Kožená, who returned to Asia after five years. This time Kozena was touring in the company of the Basal-based La Cetra Baroque Orchestra. Their joint programme, directed by Kožená’s long-time friend Ondřej Havelka, is unique and significant shift from a regular concert recital to a theatrical performance. Since the 2016 premiere in Prague’s Rudolfinum, the performance has had a great success on other stages in Europe.
 

Magdalena Kožená is well established as a major concert and recital artist.  Recital appearances have taken her to London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna, Hamburg, Lisbon, Prague, Copenhagen, Tokyo, San Francisco, and New York’s Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall.

At the beginning of the year, Magdalena Kožená took a podium with the London Symphony Orchestra and alongside the Bavarian Radio Symphony collaborated on series of concerts that included the famous symphony of Gustav Mahler "The Song of the Earth".   Recently, accompanied by La Cetra Barokorchester Basel, Magdalena started her Asia tour and to performed at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and other locations in China.

Magdalena Kožená is one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation. She has won numerous domestic and international awards and signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon in 1999. Mrs. Kožená has been awarded The Gratias agit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs for promoting the good name of the Czech Republic internationally. As Brno-born, she has also received the “City of Brno Award” in music.
