Czech Days

Czech Days are series of activities which aim at promoting the Czech Republic in particular priority areas of cooperation in Czech-China relations and take place in selected regions of China. They are linked to the high-level state visits from the Czech Republic and presented to key political partners of the Czech Republic in China, to business associations and institutions as well as to key Chinese companies with perspective of further cooperation.

Czech Days are organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing together with the Czech China Chamber of Collaboration, in cooperation with relevant ministries, agencies and regions of the Czech Republic as well as provinces of the People’s Republic of China. The main partners of the Czech Year on Belt Road are companies: Škoda Auto, Home Credit and other "event" partners.

Czech Days concept as such originated in 2015, when the so-called Czech Days in Shanghai were held in Shanghai during April 22-25, 2015. They comprised of several activities all of which supported the image of the Czech Republic as the country attractive for its tourism, known for its advanced technologies as well as offering great investment opportunities and outstanding creations of contemporary Czech art and modern design. The formed concept was subsequently used for the following Czech Days sessions.

In 2016, the Czech Days titled Czech Days in Bohai Region were held in the Bohai region which comprises of Beijing and Tianjin cities and Hebei Province. Again it included series of activities which all supported the image of the Czech Republic and took place during May and June. While in 2015 it was only a week-long event, in 2016 it was already a two-month event.

Czech Days 2017 titled as the Czech Year on Belt and Road represented a series of activities undertaken throughout the whole year of 2017. Their topic – the New Silk Road - was chosen not only to support the activities of Czech companies, which have their activities on the new Silk Road, but also to introduce the Czech Republic as a strategic partner for the formation of the new Silk Road; a partner that has a lot to offer. Additionally, the theme aptly fitrd the initiative announced by the Chinese President XI Jinping, which is further strengthened by the Czech Republic and China through the Bilateral Cooperation Plan. An essential part was hence also the Czech participation at the "Belt and Road" Forum for International Cooperation held in May 2017 in Beijing.

In 2018 already the 4th year of Czech Days took place aiming to promote the Czech Republic in China in the areas of economy, culture, education and tourism. Last year the Czech Days in Greater Bay Area, Fujian and Hainan focused on the southern part of China – that is Guangdong, Fujian and Hainan provinces as well as on Hong Kong and Macao as they are located in the greater Pearl River Delta. As 2018 marked the 100th anniversary since founding Czechoslovakia, the “Czech Days in Greater Bay Area 2018” were also commemorating the history and achievements of our past. Activities highlighted the history of Czech industry in contrast with today's modern technologies. Other key topics were Czech culture, design as well as cooperation in the field of advanced technologies, research and education. Education especially focused on the Study in the Czech Republic "China" project.

In 2019, the 5th series of Czech Days called the Czech Days in the Northeast China took place in the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang. As Northeast China region regards for an area where our primary engineering cooperation with China started, the activities mainly focused on engineering, technical, agricultural, historical and cultural sectors, as well as winter sports, which have rich resources in this area and are becoming increasingly popular due to the organization of Winter Olympic Games in the People's Republic of China in 2022. As every year also here the importance was given to the development of educational ties, especially the Study in the Czech Republic project. An integral part of the sequence of events was also the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Czech-Chinese diplomatic relations.
