A. Mucha’s Exhibition as an “Opener” for this year’s Edition of Czech Days

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in China together with the Czech China Chamber of Collaboration is in 2018 in the Greater Bay Area of the Pearl River Delta organizing a series of activities titled Czech Days. The opening ceremony officially launched the events in Guangdong Provincial Museum of Guangzhou on March 9, 2018

The event opened with the welcoming remarks of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to China Mr. Bedřich Kopecký, who introduced the Czech Days concept and activities the Embassy will hold throughout the year in the region. Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province Mr. Huang Ningsheng showed a great support to the upcoming events held in the region and expressed a great interest in further developing bilateral relations. Ribbon cutting ceremony followed the opening remarks.

The opening ceremony took place in the Guangdong Provincial Museum of Guangzhou, where from November 25, 2017 to March 25, 2018 Czech "A. Mucha and the Others" exhibition is open to the public. Alphonse Mucha was a famous Czech Art Noveau painter and decorative artist who has inspired and influenced many future generations in a way that many artists and manufacturers of the later generations have placed his famous paintings into their own products. Exhibition “Mucha’s Inspiration: Czech Products Inspired by Art Noveau” is hence displaying his influence on the famous Czech glassworks made by Preciosa, Caesar Crystal or Mr. Ladislav Ševčík, as well as on the clothes confection of the sports clothes supplier to the Czech Olympic Committee, the Alpine Pro company. The exhibition will afterwards move to Nanjing.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia remind themselves this year of the 100th Anniversary since founding Czechoslovakia. The exhibition 1918 – 2018 “Czech and Slovak Century” created by the Czech Centres and organised by the Embassy and the Czech China Chamber of Collaboration hence commemorated the history and achievements of Czechoslovakia, which was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with China. Czech Petrof piano concert by Richard Pohl, which accompanied the exposition, introduced the famous Czech classical music compositions of Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák. The showcase of Škoda cars introduced the newest models Kodiaq and Karoq.

The event was organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing and the Czech China Chamber of Collaboration and supported by the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government. Great support to the event offered the Guangdong Provincial Museum, Conrad Hotel Guangzhou and the Petrof Company, the event’s main event partners. Great thanks belongs also to the Czech Days main partners Škoda and Home Credit, partners Preciosa, Alpine Pro, Lobkowicz and Kolby, as well as to event partners Budějovický Budvar, Zubr, Marlenka and Fromin.
