Czech language students from Beijing, Tianjin and Dalian celebrated Christmas at the Embassy

For the third time, the Czech Embassy in Beijing organized a Christmas party for Bohemists. Czech language undergraduate students from Beijing, Tianjin and Dalian tried one of the traditional Christmas customs - decorating gingerbread. During the prepared program they also learned about other Czech customs connected to one of the most important holidays in the Czech Republic.

Ambassador Vladimír Tomšík and Deputy Ambassador Ivan Grollová welcomed over 90 students to the Embassy. During the opening speech, Ambassador Tomšík explained to students how Christmas is celebrated in his family and why it is the most important holiday of the year. During the evening, students tasted traditional potato salad, decorated gingerbread and sang Czech Christmas carols.

Currently, Czech language is taught at 13 universities in 10 cities across China. In addition to the traditional majors in Beijing, in 2019 the inaugural Czech studies opened to new students in Dalian and Xian. Teaching Czech in China would not be possible without the personal commitment of Czech lecturers, close cooperation with universities in the Czech Republic and financial support from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
