Top Czech Universities at the Asia’s largest education fair in Beijing and Guangzhou

From 20th to 25th of October 2018 representatives of 14 top Czech Universities visited Beijing and Guangzhou and took part in the activities of the Czech National Pavilion at the largest higher education fair in Asia – China Education Expo 2018. After the successful presentation of Czech Universities in 2017, the Czech Embassy in Beijing and the Centre for Cooperation in Education (DZS) collaborated again under the brand “Study in the Czech Republic” to present the best of Czech higher education to the Chinese students and parents.

First leg of the program included a 2-day expo in Beijing. Representatives of 14 Universities from all corners of the Czech Republic interacted with hundreds of prospective students and their parents, Chinese academic institutions and education agencies assisting Chinese students to study abroad. During a seminar devoted to Study opportunities in Czechia, current Chinese students pursuing education in Czech Republic shared their stories from receiving high quality education and living in one of the safest countries in Europe. Subsequently, representatives from Centre for Cooperation in Education, a state-run agency promoting Studying in Czech Republic, answered all questions related to visa requirements, scholarship opportunities and job-hunting after graduation. Prior to the Expo a live streaming session took place at the Embassy with a viewership of 37 thousand online participants.

Subsequently, the Czech Embassy organized at its premises a seminar for Czech Universities to review the different forms of cooperation and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead while interacting with Chinese counterparts. The seminar was followed by a U2B networking during which Universities exchanged initial contact with Chinese education agencies and a reception hosted by Ms Klara Jurcova, Charge d Affairs a.i. to highlight the past successful year of cooperation in Education between Czech Republic and China. The official Wechat account Study in Czech Republic was launched during the event to facilitate more information to prospective students. Representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic also participated in the reception.

In the following days a Ministry of Education delegation accompanied by the Education Counsellor of the Czech Embassy visited the campus of Sichuan Foreign Language University in Chengdu where Czech Studies major was recently launched. The Czech Delegation met with the president of the University and participated in program prepared by Czech language students.

Last part of the weeklong showcase of top quality Czech education took place in Guangzhou where China Education Expo settled for its next one-day stop. “It was incredible to see how many Chinese students showed interested in studying in Czech Republic. At the end of the day we had no materials left to hand out,” noted Ondrej Wagner, Education Counsellor of the Embassy.

Study in Czech Republic is a multi-year campaign in China jointly organized by the Czech Embassy in Beijing and the Centre for Cooperation in Education (DZS).
