Within first two months Ambassador Tomšík visited 4 Universities offering Czech Studies

The foundations of Czech studies in China were laid in Beijing in the 1950s. The number of universities offering bachelor’s programs of Czech Language Studies has significantly increased since then. Czech language is currently being taught at more than ten universities. Ambassador Vladimír Tomšík visited nearly half of them during the first 8 weeks of his posting in China.

Ambassador Tomšík visited Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Beijing International Studies University. During his visits, the ambassador met with the students, Czech language teachers and the faculty and university representatives. “Each of the visited cities has more than ten million inhabitants. I believe the Czech studies alumni will not have difficulties finding a job in China or Czech Republic. Especially since there is a new focus on enhancing professional knowledge of economics or socials sciences during the studies,“ ambassador Tomšík noted.

The deepening of cooperation and future joint projects were discussed with the faculty and university representatives. The universities will also hold a number of activities on the occasion of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
