President of the Chamber of Deputies Vondráček visited Beijing and met with his counterpart

On 6 and 7 November, Radek Vondráček, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, carried out a work visit to Beijing, following the program in Shanghai and Hangzhou. During the one-day program, President Vondráček met with his counterpart Li Zhanshu and Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China. In addition to discussions with Chinese representatives, the Czech delegation visited Beijing Foreign Studies University, where Mr Vondráček gave a lecture to students on the role of the Czech Republic in Central Europe and the EU.
 

During the meeting, Radek Vondráček stressed the Czech side is interested in further developing the cooperation with China in many areas including education, tourism, aviation, culture, but also human rights. The meeting with Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People´s Congress, was an opportunity to confirm good relations between countries. During subsequent talks with Song Tao, the Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Radek Vondráček stressed that the communication between lawmakers is an integral part of bilateral relations, which he personally supports. If problems exist, they ought to be addressed directly in order to avoid misunderstandings. This is also the role of political leaders.

In addition to discussions with Chinese representatives, Radek Vondráček visited Beijing Foreign Studies University, where Czech language studies have been taught since the 1950s. During the program he spoke to university students about the role of the Czech Republic in Central Europe and the EU. In the following debate, students were interested among other things about the current political and economic developments. The program at the University ended with a lunch with the President of the University, Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of European Languages.
