The Ambassador met with the Deputy Mayor in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen

Ambassador Vladimír Tomšík discussed the possibilities of cooperation with Mr. Ai Xuefeng, Deputy Mayor of the Chinese technological metropolis, the dynamically developing city of Shenzhen.

The meeting took place on March 24 as part of a working trip by the Ambassador and the Head of the Commercial and Economic Section of the Embassy, the main goal of which was to support the commercial and economic interests of the Czech Republic. Gross domestic product (GDP) of the city of Shenzhen with 13 million inhabitants reached $ 425 billion in 2020, up 3.1% year on year. It can be stated, for the comparison, that the volume of GDP is almost double the performance of the Czech economy.

Both sides agreed on the potential for closer cooperation, especially in the areas of technological development, which is so characteristic for this dynamic southern Chinese city bordering Hong Kong. This fact is well illustrated by the structure of companies that are listed on the local stock exchange and which can be from 72% described as high-tech companies. The city is also a major business center with the largest trade exhibition center in the world. Ambassador Tomšík informed about the traditional participation of a number of Czech companies in local trade fairs, whether it is the prestigious Hi-Tech Fair, the International Logistics and Transportation Fair or others. Ambassador also mentioned the attractive business and investment environment of the Czech Republic, which is interested in investments with high added value. This opportunity can also be very interesting for companies from Shenzhen.
