Concert and exhibition commemorating the Czech National Day and the Velvet Revolution Anniversary

In commemoration of the National Day and the 25th Anniversary of the democratic changes in 1989 and in presence of the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Lubomir Zaoralek, on November 12, 2014 the Czech Embassy hosted a concert by the Czech music group NATALIKA and inauguration of an exhibition of photographs by Lebanese artist Prof. Bassam Lahoud „Czech Republic: 25 years later…“.
The concert of Natalika, a Czech group presenting gypsy and world music, took place in the impressive Assembly Hall of the American University of Beirut. The audience (more than 700 persons) enjoyed the dynamic and passionate music and with great enthusiasm applauded the artists.
Before the official part, a short movie with photographs catching the events of November 1989 in Czechoslovakia was screened.
During the official part of the evening, the Ambassador Svatopluk Cumba presented a speech and then the Minister Lubomir Zaoralek awarded Mr. Antoine Assouad, Mr. Amer Arslan, Dr. Kamel Morkos and the Czech and Slovak Graduates Association with the Silver Medal of Jan Masaryk for their long-time achievements in order to develop the friendly Czech-Lebanese relations. Minister Zaoralek also received thanks and a plaquette for the Czech support to the humanitarian project in the South Lebanon (rehabilitation of six schools attended by Syrian refugees´ children) that the Embassy realized together with Aghsan association of Dr. Morkos.
After the concert, an exhibition of photographs by Lebanese artist and pedagogue Prof. Bassam Lahoud titled „Czech Republic: 25 years later…“, catching impressions from author´s visits to Prague and other Czech cities since the events of 1989, was inaugurated.
Following the exhibition, a buffet-cocktail was offered to the guests.
