The Czech Embassy in Lebanon and the Slovak Embassy in Lebanon are celebrating together the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia all along the year 2018.

This time, hand in hand, with the Beirut Arab University in Beirut and its Tripoli Campus.

On Wednesday September 19, 2018 the Ambassadors Michaela Froňková and Ľubomír Macko introduced in the Tripoli Campus the history of the common state and the present of two independent countries. Through the music, movies, performances and exhibitions the audience had the opportunity to get acquainted with a variety of the Czechs and Slovaks traditional songs and take a taste of the specialities of the Czech and Slovak cuisine. The Czech Embassy displayed the exhibition “Prague through the eyes of Bassam Lahoud“ and the students of the Music Conservatory Pilsen performed the medley of the Czech and Slovak national music.

It all began in 1918, when both nations’ shared desire for a sovereign state became a reality. Czechoslovakia, a new republic on the map of Europe, took its first steps on the journey through history and soon won international respect and recognition.

The map of Europe has changed many times during this period and even the borders of our countries have changed. The peaceful and consensual dissolution of the Czechoslovak federation in January 1993 has been the precondition for the excellent cooperation between Czechia and Slovakia as two independent countries. Today, both countries take advantage i.e. of the common history and culture, extremely close language and the EU and NATO membership to bring the relationship of two neighboring countries to the new level. The joint celebration of the anniversary in 2018 is the proof of this. For more photos, visit our Facebook profile !
