Embassy Hosted a Reception to Celebrate Freedom and Democracy

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beirut held a reception on the occassion of the Freedom and Democracy Day and the Czech Armed Forces Day on Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Embassy premises in Baabda.

The reception was attended by more than 500 guests, among whom were the representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps, Lebanese government, Czech and Lebanese armed forces, business and expat community and non-governmental organizations.

Prominent Lebanese politicians and leaders graced the occasion: H.E. Energy Minister Cesar Abou-Khalil, officially representing the President of the Republic, H.E. General Michel Aoun, H.E. Deputy Kassem Abdel Aziz, representing the Speaker of Parliament H.E. Nabih Berri, H.E. MP Atef Majdalani, representing H.E. Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Mr. Marwan Zheiry, representing the Druze Sheikh Highest Spiritual Leader Sheikh Naeim Hassan, H.E. Talal Daouq, representing H.E. Defense Minister Yaacoub Sarraf, H.E. Telecom Minister Jamal Jarrah, H.E. Corruption Minister Nicolas Tueni, H.E. Human Rights Minister Ayman Choukair, and Ambassador Hussein Haidar, representing Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.

In her speech the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Lebanon, Dr. Michaela Fronkova, stressed the relevance of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy in the history of the Czech country, and the difficulty of establishing and preserving freedom and democracy in general. The Ambassador highlighted the good relations between the Czech Republic and Lebanon, and provided historical and current proof thereof. Ambassador Fronkova further expressed her admiration for the resilience of the democratically-minded people of Lebanon.

All guests had the opportunity to taste Czech and Lebanese cuisine and witness a magical performance of national anthems and music by the children and students of the Lebanese Academy "La Demeure des Muses" and the Army Band of the Lebanese Forces.
