Minister of Defense Mrs. Jana Černochová signed MoU in Lebanon, brought further material aid

The Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic Mrs. Jana Černochová, visited Lebanon on March 16-18, 2023. It was historically the first visit at the level of the Defense Minister.

She held talks with her Lebanese counterpart, Mr. Maurice Sleem, with whom she discussed the security situation in Europe and the Middle East and the possibilities of further material assistance for the Lebanese army and security forces. At the same time, the ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on mutual cooperation, which will further enhance the defense cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister Jana Černochová also met with the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Joseph Aoun, and the Director of the General Security, Brigadier General Elias Baissari. On the occasion of her visit, she handed over two ultrasonic devices to the military hospital in Beirut and the medical center of the General Security. In addition, a donation of a defibrillator was handed over to the Baalbeck Governemental Hospital. The Czech Republic donated to this hospital medical equipment for its new neonatal unit in 2022 in the framework of the Reconstruction Programme for the Middle East.

Since 2021, the Czech Republic has provided to Lebanon more than 47 tons of aid, mainly basic food and medical equipment.  

The Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic also honored the memory of Czechoslovak soldier at the Commonwealth Military Cemetery in Beirut. For more details, visit the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic.
