Czechia Supported Renovation of Bathrooms at School in Zgharta in Lebanon

Thanks to the Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic, boys and girls at the Antonine School in Zharta in the north of Lebanon have new toilets and washrooms. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beirut supported a small scale local project realized by local NGO Himaya Daeem Aataa (HDA) that aimed to improve the sanitary conditions for 500 students of the School.

The school was established by the Antonine Order in year 1946. It is run by the Antonine Sisters and children between 3 and 10 years old attend the school that provides both preschool and primary education. There were not enough bathrooms for the number of students. The boys and girls had to share and did not have enough privacy. Thanks to the small scale local project, the toilets could be renovated, enlarged and separated. New and easily accessible washroom was built in the courtyard.

Michaela Froňková, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Lebanon, visited the school during the reconstruction and met with both the Antonine nuns and the children. She presented the finished project to the nuns and children at the beginning of the school year in October 2018. The successful project was greatly appreciated by the Antonine nuns, teachers and children who prepared a cultural performance in return.
