Institution for Orphans and Children at Risk in Kfarfou Has a New Kitchen Thanks to Czechia

The Czech Republic financed a small scale local project that aimed to renovate a kitchen at the Institution St. Antoine de Padeou in North Lebanon. Thanks to the Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic, the capacity of the kitchen was increased and the hygienic conditions were improved, as well as the quality of the prepared food.

In the institution, the Antonine Sisters take care of 120 girls and boys between 3 and 16 years old. The children come mostly from local towns and villages, but some of them also from Syria and Iraq. They are orphans, children at risk and children with special needs. The institution provides accommodation, food and also schooling for the children. In the future, the Antonine Sisters would like to expand the capacities of the orphanage, but so far they lack the finances.

The capacity of the kitchen was not sufficient for the number of children that live at the institution. It was over 40 years old and a cause of hygienic problems. Michaela Froňková, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, saw this when she toured the institution before the start of the project. The Antonine Sisters were very excited about the new kitchen and were showing her what appliances they would like to choose for the kitchen.

In order to celebrate the successful completion of the project in October 2018, the Ambassador had lunch in the dining hall of the institution together with the children the Antonine sisters, journalists and representatives of Himaya Daeem Aataa (HDA), the NGO that realized the project.
