Official visit to Western Flander

On March 6th ambassador Jaroslav Kurfürst paid the official visit to the region of Western Flanders.

Ambassador was accompanied by the honorary consul Mr. Dirk Van de Gehuchte. He met with the governor of the Province in Brugges Carl Decaluwé and with vice mayor Philip Pierins.

Among the topics discussed with the governor dominated the economical cooperation between the province and the Czech Republic. Many successful investors to the Czech economy come from the province including Bekaert, Primus, and many others. Role of the sister cities was appreciated in developing the people to people relations. In the province Poperinge is a sister city of Žatec (building on the hop and bier tradition) and Izegem is a sister citi of Zlín.

Ambassador highlighted the mutual potential of cooperation in touristic industry where Brugges plays an important role as well as Prague and many other Czech cities and cultural sites. The attractiveness of Colege d´Europe for Czech students is another connecting point. At the end of the program ambassador visited the museum of fine art Groeningemuseum in the great company of the chief curator Till-Holger Borchert who appreciated the cooperation with the National Gallery of Arts in Prague.
