CURRENT MEASURES FOR TRAVELS BELGIUM/CZECH REPUBLIC

The rules for entering the territory of the Czech Republic and quarantine measures are defined by the Ministry of Health and they are also regularly updated on the website of the Ministry of the Interior.

We draw your attention to the fact that the information published by the Czech government can be adapted very quickly and on short notice, depending on the epidemiological situation. It is therefore important to regularly consult the above mentioned websites.

Entry into the territory of the Czech Republic

The rules for entering the territory of the Czech Republic and quarantine measures are defined by the Ministry of Health and they are also regularly updated on the website of the Ministry of the Interior and Covid Portal-travelling abroad .

We draw your attention to the fact that the information published by the Czech government can be adapted very quickly and in the short term, depending on the epidemiological situation. It is therefore important to regularly consult the above mentioned websites.

Traveling from Belgium

According to the current travel map, Belgium is in the DARK RED CATEGORY: Countries with a very high risk of transmission.

For entering the territory of the Czech Republic, the following measures apply (Rules for entry and return to the Czech Republic as of July 19th, 2021):

Arriving from a country with a high or very high risk of transmission:

  • Entry is allowed for any reason /citizens of Czechia and foreign nationals with residence permit issued by Czechia and citizens of EU+ (= EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) and foreign nationals with long-term or permanent residence permit issued by EU+

  • It is necessary to fill in the Passenger Locator Form and submit it prior to the arrival to the Czech Republic

  • It is necessary to have a negative PCR test before arrival (no older than 72 hours) Vaccinated foreigners and foreigners with a history of the covid-19 disease are no longer exempt from the pre-entry test. Also, vaccinated persons and those with a history of the disease must have an RT-PCR test result prior to entry (vaccinated persons are further exempted from the requirement to take the test upon arrival). Only foreigners who have also had a booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine are exempt from all tests (they only need a completed arrival form). This exemption also applies to children aged 12 to 18 years who have been vaccinated but have not received a booster dose. 

    • citizens and residents of the Czech Republic can undergo an antigen test instead of a PCR before the arrival (antigen test no older than 48 hours)

    • citizens and residents of Czechia can enter the country even in case of a positive test before arrival, rules for transport with a positive test are described in the Ministry of Health Protective Measure (I.12, D)

    • in case of traveling by individual means of transport they do not have to undergo a test before arrival

  • It is necessary to undergo PCR testing after arrival (on the 5th day after arrival at the earliest and no later than on the 14th day)

  • until receiving a negative result of this PCR test is necessary to wear a FFP2 respirator or its equivalent for the respective period.

 

There are exceptions from testing  after the arrival for these groups of persons:

o   Persons who had Covid-19 in last 180 days (it is necessary to have a written medical certificate in English from an EU+ country where the isolation was completed or a digital EU certificate)

o   Persons fully vaccinated in the EU+ countries – 14 days after the application of the last dose (it is necessary to have a national certificate or a digital EU certificate)

o   Czech citizens and EU+ citizens fully vaccinated in a third country with the EMA approved vaccination when it is at least 14 days after the application of the last dose.

o   Childern in the age group 0-12 years

The information is provided Czech and English. Individual exemption requests will not be answered, the Ministry of the Interior does not grant any individual exemptions for entry into the territory of the Czech Republic.

Coming back to Belgium

When coming back to Belgium, please check the complete rules that apply.

When coming from the Czech Republic, which is currently a red country according to the European map and to the Belgian authorities, the following rules apply:

 

  • You must complete the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) within 48 hours before arriving in Belgium, even if you’re vaccinated. The PLF must be completed by all people travelling to Belgium, except:

    • if they are staying for less than 48 hours in Belgium,

    • if they are returning to Belgium after a stay abroad of less than 48 hours;

    • Are you traveling to Belgium by plane or boat? Then you must always fill in the PLF, even if you are staying in Belgium for less than 48 hours or were abroad for less than 48 hours.

    • Are you travelling by train or bus from a country outside the EU or Schengen area? Then you must always fill in the PLF, even if you are staying in Belgium for less than 48 hours or were abroad for less than 48 hours.

    • If you have stayed in a very high-risk country for the past 14 days, you need to fill in the PLF at all times, regardless of the length of your stay.

  • The PLF will take the last 14 days into account when determining quarantine, also when the zone changes colour.

  • If you are traveling from a green or orange zone, you do not need to get tested or quarantined.

Transit

Transit through Belgium

To cross Belgium, it is still recommended to choose the most direct route possible and to confirm that you pass through the country for transit purposes only. 

Exemption from the obligation to complete a Passenger Locator Form: persons traveling other than by a plane or ship and staying in Belgium for less than 48 hours. In case of traveling by plane or ship, passengers must tick the appropriate box in the PLF form, if they travel within 48 hours - they will not receive an SMS.
