Charles University in Leuven and Brussels

On November 9th and 10th the leadership and numerous professors and scientists from Charles University in Prague will visit Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

The visit will start with a signature of memorandum on enhanced cooperation. The outstanding tradition of Czech-Belgian cooperation in the field of science and research will be highlighted by the exhibition „Czech Science Fights Viruses“, which will be opened by Czech ambassador to Belgium Jaroslav Kurfürst and Rector of university of Leuven Rik Torfs. The exhibition will present the scientific success of Prof. Antonín Holý from Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. An important part of those successes including the medicaments targeting AIDS, was achieved thanks to cooperation with Belgian virologist Erik De Clercq from Leuven University, who will be present.

The visit will continue with the meetings of professors and scientists with their Belgian counterparts with the aim of discussing concrete projects of cooperation. From Leuven the delegation will move to Université Libre de Bruxelles, where leadership, scientists of both universities will meet and discuss deepening of their cooperation. “Both Belgian universities and Charles University belong among the best European academic institutions and there is a lot where the strengthened cooperation can be useful” says Czech Ambassador. The evening on November 10th will belong to the alumni meeting of Charles University with former students working now in Brussels and Belgium. The alumni meeting will be held at Permanent representation of the Czech Republic to the EU.
