On 13 April 2016, the nine new European Heritage Label sites were recognised at a ceremony in Brussels, Belgium.

On 13 April 2016, the nine sites added this year to the European Heritage Label list were celebrated during a ceremony gathering heritage stakeholders from all over Europe. The sites are: The Neanderthal Prehistoric site and Krapina Museum (HR), the Olomouc Premyslid Castle and Archdiocesan Museum (CZ), the Sagres Promontory (PT), the Imperial Palace (AT), the Historic Ensemble of the University of Tartu (EE), Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music (HU), Mundaneum (BE), WWI Eastern Front Cemetery N°123 (PL) and the European District of Strasbourg (FR). They add up to the twenty sites that received the Label in the past two years.

The European Heritage Label goes to cultural heritage sites important to the history of the EU as a whole. European Heritage Label sites are also recognised for highlighting this European context, ensuring access for the public and organising awareness-raising activities.

European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Tibor Navracsics passed the prize of European Heritage Label at a gala evening in Brussel‘s Solvay Library  to the head of the Archdiocesan Museum Miroslav Kindl. Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum is the first site in the Czech Republic holding this award.
