The Official Opening of the 7th Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF in Belgium

The official opening of the 7th Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF in Belgium took place at the European Parliament on February 6, 2019. The Echoes, a representative showcase of documentary films screened at the last year’s International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava, will run February 6–12 in Brussels and Ghent.

The event was held under the auspices of Pavel Poc, Member of the European Parliament, and Pavel Klucký, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium who gave an opening speech. He emphasized not only increasing interest of Belgian audience in the festival, but also its expansion to another Belgian city.  Among the speakers were also representatives from Jihlava city and Vysočina region as well as Šimon Bauer, Director of  CDF, and Jitka Pánek Jurková, director of the Czech Centre Brussels.

The opening ceremony included a screening of the "Talks with TGM" (Special Mention Opus Bonum at 22nd Ji.hlava IDFF), a fiction dialogue between the first Czechoslovak President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk and a Czech writer Karel Čapek about their political and private memories, views on democracy, the role of the Czechoslovakia in Europe and also Masaryk´s relationship with his family. The movie was followed by Q&A with the director and a cocktail reception.
