9th Edition of Echoes of Ji.hlava in Belgium

Echoes of the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival return to Brussels after for the ninth time already. Echoes of Ji.hlava will be available to the online public throughout Belgium from 11 to 17 March 2021 - you will be able to watch all the films of the festival via the Dafilms portal, but only for a limited number. Viewers will have the chance to share special moments, meetings with directors, and masterclasses.

This edition will present a documentary dedicated to the world-renowned director Jan Švankmajer. The Alchemical Furnaceis a surrealist work that seeks to bring the filmmaker's personal life, his marriage, and his exceptional approach to his world-famous cinema closer together on several levels.

The program will also feature First Birthday after the Apocalypse an autobiographical documentary by Farah Hasanbegovic, a successful film from contemporary Cuba entitled Epicentro by Austrian director Hubert Sauper, and the film Ghosts: Long Way Homeby the awarded director Tiago Siopa will be part of the projection.  

Pripyat Piano by Eliška Cílková a documentary calling for the return of man as a creator and performer to continue their fatally cut-off work where the Chernobyl tragedy took place.

Czech works will also be represented by the duo Vít Klusák and Filip Remunda, who studies the relationship between Poland and Poles to God and faith in the film Once Upon a Time in Poland.

There will also be short films to watch, such as Time Is a Belgian Film and Zaura Kourazova, a student at the KASK in Ghent.

In addition to the main program of the festival, there will also be a master class for students at the Brussels Art School RITCS and KASK in Ghent.

The ninth year of Echoes of the Jihlava IDFF is being held under the auspices of J. E. Pavel Klucký, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Belgium.
