Czech Ambassador to Belgium Pavel Klucký signed on Europe Day a memorandum on cultural representation during the Czech Presidency

On Europe Day, 9 May 2022, the Czech Ambassador to Belgium, H.E. Pavel Klucký, signed a memorandum on the cultural programme of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU at the BOZAR Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels. On behalf of BOZAR, the memorandum was signed by its  Deputy Director General, Christine Perpette. The Director of the Czech Centre Brussels, Jitka Pánek Jurková, was also present.

The content of the memorandum concerns the cooperation between Czech institutions and BOZAR in the second half of 2022. BOZAR is traditionally the venue for a large part of the cultural programmes of the Presidency. The Czechs have prepared an art installation by Milena Dopitová directed by the National Gallery or a showcase of Czech contemporary films thanks to the Czech Centre Brussels and the State Cinematography Fund. The Government Office and the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU are preparing a representative opening concert. This prestigious cultural institution will also host a closing concert with young talents, a Czech-led conference on artificial intelligence and a number of other events.
However, the Czech Presidency programme will not be limited to the BOZAR walls - the first Presidency event will be a run in honour of Emil and Dana Zátopek on 2 July 2022. Contemporary art will take over the streets of Brussels and European institutions in July, and a series of concerts and theatre performances are planned for the autumn. The general public will certainly not overlook the Czech cultural footprint in Brussels.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation took place in the space of the current Imagine Ukraine exhibition. Symbolically, it indicates that Ukraine will be one of the important topics of the cultural part of the Czech Presidency. After the signing, the Czech delegation was present for a festive performance of Bedřich Smetana's My Country by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Thomas Guggeis.
