Ambassador pays tribute to Holocaust victims

On 9 October 2013, Ambassador Jiří Šitler laid a wreath at Holocaust Memorial in Bucharest on the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day.

On the Holocaust Memorial Day Romania commemorates Jews and Roma victims of crimes of the 2nd World War. 9 October was decided because on that day in 1943 deportations of Romanian Jews to the Transnistria. On this occasion, the Ambassador underlined that still there are among us – in Romania, in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in the world – direct victims of the Holocaust living. In their age they not only have the right that we learn from their experience, but also that we take care of their material and social needs.

The Czech Center in Bucharest participates in preparation for the series of movie screening, exhibitions and discussions, which will take place under the title Focus: Holocaust – documentation against oblivion at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant on 14 – 19 October.
