Czech Language Day

On 26 September 2016, the festive meeting of the Czech scholars, Romanian scholars and friends of the Czech Republic and of Romania took place at the residence of the Czech Ambassador in Bucharest with the cooperation of the local Czech Center in honor of the Czech Language Day adopted by the Parliament of Romania on St. Vaclav’s Day.
 

The meeting was opened by ambassador Vladimír Války who highlighted the importance of this legislative act for the local Czech minority and appreciated this legislative proposal initiated in 2014 by minority member of parliament Adrian Miroslav Merka. The state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and former Romanian ambassador in Czech Republic Daniela Gîtaman and a member of the Parliament A. M. Merka greeted the participants.         

The only Romanian winner of the „Gratias agit“ prize, awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, prof. Anca Irina Ionescu, shared the festive moments she experienced at this prestigious prize award ceremony. Gabriela Mádrová presented her Romanian book dedicated to the literary personalities of the town of Târgovişte. Front Romanian scholars in Czech Republic prof. Jiří Felix and Dr. Libuše Valentová highlighted the successes of Romanian studies in Czech Republic.

The participants held a moment of silence in memory of multiple Olympic champion and prominent member of civil society Věra Čáslavská who died this year after a serious illness.
