Embassy of the Czech Republic at events marking ten years of Romania in NATO

From 31 March to 7 April 2014, Ambassador Jiří Šitler and Deputy-Head of Mission Tomáš Vostrý participated at celebrations as well as a conference and a symposium on NATO enlargement in 2004 including Romania in the Presidential Palace Cotroceni and the Parliament of Romania.

Representatives of all Romanian political parties and all speakers evaluated a full NATO membership of Romania since 2004 as a historic step and the highest security guarantee, which Romania has ever had. There were mentioned some 1,100 Romanian troops deployed in the NATO mission in Afghanistan in March 2014 and expressed condolences to families of 26 soldiers, who sacrificed their lives in NATO missions. President Basescu stressed out that “Romanian troops will stay in Afghanistan until the mission is accomplished…frozen conflicts in Transnistria and Abkhazia will be a test for the capacity of NATO….NATO should offer security also to non-members, if they will be interested.”  Prime Minister Ponta said that “a military security space should also become an economic security space”.
