Embassy of the Czech Republic pays tribute to Holocaust victims

From 8 October to 10 October 2014, representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest paid tribute to Holocaust victims.

On the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day Ambassador Jiří Šitler laid a wreath at Holocaust Memorial in Bucharest on 8 October, a Deputy-Head of Mission Tomáš Vostrý participated the same day at a special commemorative session in the Parliament of Romania and the Second Secretary Pavel Stiegler attended on 10 October the opening of the exhibition “How was it possible?”, prepared by the Ellie Wiesel National Institute for Holocaust in Romania in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Commission. The events were attended by politicians and high officials from the Government, Parliament, public and cultural life and the Diplomatic Corps.

On the Holocaust Memorial Day Romania commemorates Jews and Roma victims of crimes of the 2nd World War. 9 October was decided because on that day in 1943 deportations of Romanian Jews to the Transnistria started.
