(This article expired 31.03.2021.)

On the occasion of One World Romania film festival, representatives of NGO´s People in Need Eva Homolková and Burma Campaign UK Wai Hnin visited Romania. The two organizations have been jointly operating as Secretariat of the European Parliamentary Caucus on Burma (EPCB).

Besides their meetings with Romanian non-governmental organizations and think tanks, the two representatives were received on 17 March 2011 by Sorin Constantin Lazar, Secretary of the Human Rights Committee of the Senate of Romanian Parliament, and Vasile Sofineti, Director General of the Globalization Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The EPCB representatives were accompanied by the Czech Ambassador Jiří Šitler. The meeting focused on Romania´s support for the prolongation of the EU decision in relation to Burma, support for the establishment of a UN Commission of Inquiry to investigate the crimes perpetrated in Burma, and the more extensive involvement of the members of Romanian Parliament in the EPCB.

The two NGO´s representatives together with the Ambassador Jiří Šitler attended the screening of the film Burma Soldier at the One World Romania film festival and took part in the following discussion with members of the audience on the situation in Burma.

Support for democracy and observance of the human rights in the world belong to the priorities of the Czech Republic´s foreign policy. Therefore Burma is one of the countries Czech diplomacy pays particular attention to.
