National Day of the Czech Republic

On 30 October 2012, the Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted a reception to celebrate its national holiday – the Independent Czechoslovak State Day.

The reception was attended by representatives of Romanian institutions, the diplomatic corps, veterans of WWII, cultural and academic life, mass media, and members of the Czech community in Romania as well as Czech citizens. Among the prominent guest were President of Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Stefan Zgonea, other Members of Parliament, State Secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign affairs and of other Ministries. On this occasion, Ambassador Jiří Šitler pointed out the historical tradition of Czech-Romanian alliance relationships.

The Czech Mamapapabanda music band took care of the cultural programme. The Embassy used the occasion to display in the InterContinental Hotel an exhibition on Jiří Trnka, one of the founders of the Czech animated film, and to show a documentary film on the history of the two countries´ relations. Czech companies were presented during the event. 

Shortly before the reception,  the Ambassador opened an exhibition GREAT CZECHS by Little Czechs, displayed in the passage of the Universitate Metro station, which presents personalities of Czech history using children’s original perspective.
