Ambassador Halka Kaiserová visited Banat

From 19 to 22 February 2023, Ambassador Kaiserová and Consul J. Kruková visited the region of Banat, where the largest concentration of compatriots in Romania is located.

The aim of the trip was, as part of the regular visits, to meet with as wide a compatriot community as possible, to negotiate with the local mayors of the villages where the community of Czech compatriots lives and with the presidents of the compatriot associations. The programme also included a meeting with the Prefect of Caras Severin County I. Dragomir and the Chairman of the Caras Severin County Council R. Dunca. During these meetings, the issues of ensuring adequate health care, cooperation in education, promotion of tourism, possible job opportunities and the further development and support of the community of Czech compatriots in Banat were discussed. Another important point of the meeting was the preparation of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the first Czechs to Banat, which will be divided into two parts. The first part of the celebrations will take place in August in Banat and the second part will be concentrated in Bucharest at the end of September. The meeting also touched upon the issue of the division of the Democratic Union of Slovaks and Czechs in Romania into a separate Czech and Slovak entity and the prospect of future cooperation of compatriots in a separate Czech union.
