Visit of President of Czech Senate to Romania

The President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milan Štěch paid an official visit to Romania on 23 – 24 September 2013.

The visit was focused on strengthening parliamentary and economic ties between the two countries. Štěch met with the President of the Senate Crin Antonescu, the President of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea, the Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea, the Minister Delegate for Energy Constantin Nita and was received by President Traian Basescu. He also met with business representatives to boost bilateral economic cooperation.  Within economic agenda there was a particular emphasis on cooperation in the field of energy.

On the occasion of the visit there was held a round table on 75th anniversary of the Munich Conference 1938 organized on September 23 by the Institute for Political Studies of Defense and Military History of the Ministry of National Defense of Romania and the Czech Embassy in cooperation with the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences in the premises of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament, as well as an exhibition on General Heliodor Píka, a Czechoslovak army officer who served in the 1930s as a military attaché to Romania and was later executed by his country Communist regime.       

During a reception held in the Ambassador´s residence on the occasion of the visit performed a Roma musician Mário Bihári.
