Anniversary of revolutionary 1989, accessions to NATO and EU

It has been 30 years since the revolutionary events of 1989 when people of Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland regained freedom. This victory and further democratic development of the region were later confirmed by Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia entering the North Atlantic Alliance and European Union. Anniversaries of these historical steps are being recalled in Bratislava, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw and other Central European cities and towns by various events, projects and performances.

On 12th March 2019, we mark the 20th anniversary of the accession of Czechia, Hungary and Poland to NATO.. The Presidents Miloš Zeman, János Áder and Andrzej Duda together with the President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska, NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller, former US Foreign Minister Madeleine Albright, former NATO Secretary-General George Robertson and other distinguished guests take part in a State Ceremony at the Prague Castle followed by a Conference titled Our Security is not granted. In the afternoon, there is a V4 informal meeting of foreign and defence ministers and later on a Gala Evening.

On 10th March 2019, the Prime Ministers and Ministers of Defence of V4 gathered in Warsaw to celebrate the accession of our countries to the NATO.
