Vaclav Klaus awarded Petőfi Prize in Budapest

On December 10, Václav Klaus received the Petőfi Prize, awarded by the Public Foundation for the History and the Society of Central and Eastern Europe for his efforts for democracy and freedom in Central Europe. The award ceremony took place at the House of Terror Museum. Ambassador Juraj Chmiel and Consul Milan Simko attended the event on behalf of the Czech Embassy.

 

The Public Foundation for the History and the Society of Central and Eastern Europe and MOL established the Petőfi Prize in 2009 to recognize outstanding efforts made to advance freedom and democracy.

The award ceremony was covered by the Hungarian internet media and included among  top daily news of the Kossuth radio station. On 26 December, Echo TV re-emitted the interview with Václav Klaus from July when he participated in the conference on the future of

Vaclav Klaus also met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. During the conversation, the Hungarian Prime Minister highlighted the quality of Czech Hungarian bilateral relations and the development of mutual trade and investments.
