Dr Milan Kantor OAM Death Notice and Closure of Honorary Consulate-General of the Czech Republic in Melbourne

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra has a sad duty to inform that on 6th January 2019, Dr Milan Kantor OAM, Honorary Consul-General of the Czech Republic in Melbourne passed away.

Milan Kantor was appointed Honorary Consul of Czechoslovak Federal Republic / Czech Republic in 1991, serving for 27 years in office right until the end of his life. In 1999 the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Melbourne was upgraded to Honorary Consulate-General. Milan Kantor received many awards and honours for his work. In 2002 the Jan Masaryk Gratias Agit award was bestowed on Dr Kantor by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. In 2007 Dr Kantor received a first degree Merit from the then President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus.

With the passing of Dr Milan Kantor, the Czech Republic has lost a tireless promoter of Czechia abroad, and more so a Renaissance man with a big heart.

Great honour to his memory.

Due to the passing of Dr Milan Kantor OAM, the Honorary Consulate-General in Melbourne has closed down. The Consulate-General of the Czech Republic in Sydney will, however, hold consular days in Melbourne to continue with consular agenda such as document/signature verification, travel document delivery etc. The dates of consular days will be announced well in advance on this website.
