Children's Day Celebrations combined with a lesson at the Embassy in Canberra

In the Czech Republic, Children's Day is celebrated on the 1st June. Here in Canberra we celebrated Children's Day two days early, on Saturday 30th May.

We decided to merge celebrations with traditional Saturday classes at the Czech School in Canberra, ran by the community group, Beseda, and invited children to come along to the Embassy. We prepared a beautiful exhibition about Czech castles and chateaus, to remind the children of the beauty of the Czech Republic and all of the legends and stories that go along with it. The teacher, Daniela Wadey, prepared study materials which illustrated the most important events of Czech history, as well as the significant leaders and their deeds which helped form it.

Hopefully this served as a pleasant change of scene for the children, and helped to diversify lessons which for obvious reasons have been limited over the past weeks.

We hope to take advantage of such occasions and prepare even more similar events in the future.
