Europe Day 2022

Yesterday, the Ambassador of the European Union to Australia, Dr Michael Pulch, invited Ambassador Tomas Dub and all EU heads of Mission to celebrate Europe Day and the great ties between the EU and Australia.

Europe Day is held on the 9th of May every year and celebrates peace and unity in Europe. It also commemorates the signing of the 'Schuman Declaration' which eventually lead to the creation of the European Union and was aimed at making war between European nations "not merely unthinkable, but materially impossible". The Colours of Europe and by extension the colours of Ukraine, yellow and blue, lit up brightly throughout Canberra on buildings reminding us of the shadow which has been casted over celebrations due to aggression against Ukraine. The importance of working for peace in Europe is more evident than ever. The infographic below “European Union in numbers” highlights the strength, size and capability of Europe as a whole. During the second half of the year, the Czech Republic will take presidency of the council of the EU in which it will work with France and Sweden as a trio.
