National Day Reception at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra

On Friday 18th October the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra held a reception to celebrate the Anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia, which Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation Martin Tlapa, participated in.

After introductory remarks from Ambassador Tomáš Dub, the Czech and Australian national anthems were played, sung by Czech national Nikola Jelínková. These formalities were followed by a speech by Deputy Minister Martin Tlapa, who mentioned the Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution (which the Embassy will be devoting a separate event to) and symbolically thanked Australians for taking in Czech immigrants.

The selection of food and refreshments was chosen to give guests the opportunity to taste traditional Czech cuisine. Prague ham and mushroom Kuba were among the dishes served, complemented by beer on tap and a selection of wines from the Tasmanian winery of Josef Chromý.

Roughly 200 guests attended the reception.
