Ninth annual Czech and Slovak film festival in Australia

The ninth annual Czech and Slovak film festival in Australia will take place from the 7th to 16th of October, online (Australia wide) through ACMI Cinema 3, and with the theme “Únik”.

Sometimes everyone needs to escape from everyday worries, and a film is one of the best ways to achieve it.

There are five feature films on offer:

  • Gump – a dog who taught people to live

Brand new film presenting a feel-good story that highlights the need for friendship, family and companionship. All star cast: Gump(s), Ivan Trojan, Bolek Polívka, Eva Holubová.

  • Athanor: Alchemical Furnace

A compelling and playful documentary on the work and life of one of the masters of cinema, Jan Švankmajer.

  • The Ear

A masterful psychological drama from the time of the totalitarian regime. Spectacular performance by Czech greats Radek Brzobohatý and Jiřina Bohdalová.

  • FREM

Documentary sci-fi, set entirely on the inhospitable plains of Antarctica.

  • Pacho, the Thief of Hybe

Political satire based on the tales of Slovak national hero Jánošík, King of Thieves, starring Josef Kroner.
