Queen Elizabeth II has passed away

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Australia's Head of State.

Her Majesty held 16 royal visits to Australia over a 57-year period and was the first reigning British monarch to visit Australia. During the queen’s 1954 tour, it has been estimated that as much as 75% of the Australian population saw the queen. This morning, after the announcement of her death, the prime minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese described the queens reign as "historic" and "devoted to duty, family, faith and service".. Prince Charles, Heir to the throne, will officially be named Charles the Third, by the Grace of God King of Australia and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.

The Queen travelled to the Czech Republic in 1996 with Prince Philip at the invitation of President Václav Havel. During her visited the cities of Prague and Brno. President Václav Havel was presented with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, one of Britain's highest honours. Havel then presented the Queen with the Order of the White Lion, First Class, with the Chain of the Order, which is reserved for heads of state.
