Statement on the expulsion of Russian diplomats by Foreign Minister Hamáček

Czech law enforcement authorities are still investigating the circumstances and suspicions about involvement of Russian GRU agents in the Vrbětice explosion. On Friday, we received clear information that Russian secret service operations were taking place on our territory.

After consulting with the President and the Prime Minister, I decided to expel all employees of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Prague, who were clearly identified by our secret services as officers of the GRU and SVR. Within 48 hours, 18 employees of the Russian Embassy must leave the Czech Republic. That explains why I could not talk clearly about my planned trip to Moscow. I was criticized by the media and politicians, but I could not act otherwise. Everything happened very quickly, we are proceeding in the interests of Czech citizens.
