The main purpose of the trip was to attend a work dinner with the Governor of Tasmania, Mrs Kate Warner who was accompanied by her husband. The dinner was also attended by the Director of Prague Zoo Miroslav Bobek, his Deputy Director Mr Jaroslav Šimek and honorary consul of the Czech Republic in Tasmania, Mrs Milena Mills.

The dinner itself was held in the ceremonial spaces at the Governor’s residence. The Governor expressed her support to Prague Zoo in the matter of Tasmanian Devils and gave her thanks for aiding in their protection, which was the main goal of the dinner which came about as an initiative of the representative office in Canberra. Obtaining and transporting these rare animals is far from easy and demands not only technical precautions, but also cooperation between various interest groups and institutions both within the Czech Republic and Australia, and internationally. This process, albeit demanding, will raise the prestige of Prague Zoo and in gaining the Tasmanian Devils Prague Zoo will also be gaining a unique exhibit. Prague Zoo will also be endeavouring to acquire Australian wombats so that the exhibit will be more complex and even more interesting.

Tasmanian Devils are an endangered species and in order for them to be transported Prague, the Zoo will be getting involved, both practically and financially, in a program for their protection.
