The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chengdu organized two piano concerts of Czech classical music

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chengdu organized two piano concerts – one in Chengdu and one in Chongqing. Together they were seen by almost two hundred participants.

The concerts were held in a very positive mood as they were the first purely cultural events organized by the Consulate this year. Covid-19 suspended indoor events for many months and it has only been in the recent time that they could have been resumed. The welcoming speech, therefore, highlighted the fact that classical music (and art in general) was able to overcome not only world wars or economic crises but also pandemics. It has always brought joy and relaxation which we hope both concerts did as well.

The first concert took place on October 13th, 2020 in the Yan Ji You bookstore in the IFS shopping center in the center of Chengdu. The whole concert was played on a Czech piano made by Petrof Company and guests could enjoy Smetana's “Vltava”, Dvořák's “Humoreska” or, for example, Bohuslav Martinů's “Kolombína”.

The second concert was held on October 15th, 2020 in the neighboring metropolis of Chongqing. On the premises of the official dealer of Petrof pianos in China, the guests listened to the same set of compositions by Czech authors, but this time played on the Rösler piano (part of the Petrof Family Brands).

Both concerts were accompanied by a slideshow of Czech landscape and monuments photographs which – according to some - in connection with the piano music literally transferred the guests to the Czech Republic. During both concerts guests also had the opportunity to see an exhibition of Czech glass.

We hope and believe that these concerts marked the renewal of many more cultural events in the region.
