Director of Prague Zoo Visited Chengdu and Chongqing to Launch Cooperation

At the end of April 2016 Mr. Miroslav Bobek, Director of Prague Zoo, had successful talks about cooperation between Zoos and between Prague Zoo and giant panda research bases in Southwestern China. His visit also represented another step on the path towards bringing a pair of giant pandas to the Czech Republic.

On 26th April 2016 Director Miroslav Bobek visited Chongqing Zoo, was taken for an inspection of the animals and had a meeting with Director Mr. Xiao Jinchuan. The main topics of the discussion were an exchange of experience and best practices, upkeeping and breeding of giant pandas and research. Both Zoos have had rich experience regarding Giant Salamanders (Andrias Davidianus), and now they plan to work together to have these largest amphibians prosper even more. 

On 27th April 2016 another important meeting took place – with Director of Chengdu Zoo Mr. Wang Qiang.  The topics of discussion were similar with a special focus on an exchange of researchers and on breeding of gorillas and golden monkeys.

The same day the delegation of the Prague Zoo accompanied by the Consul General of the Czech Republic also paid a visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Dujiangyan´s branch of Wolong National Nature Reserve. The Chinese experts provided lots of important information on breeding of giant pandas. They also showed great interest in Prague Zoo´s project of the return of the Przewalski’s horse to Mongolia.
