Amendment of the Czech Citizenship Act

On September 6, 2019, an amendment of the Czech Citizenship Act came into effect.

The amendment enables to acquire citizenship of the Czech Republic by means of declaration to persons whose at least one parent or grandparent is citizen of the Czech Republic or was former citizen of the Czech Republic or Czechoslovakia pursuant to Article 31 (1) of the Czech Citizenship Act, if this person is not citizen of the Slovak Republic on the date of making such declaration at a competent office of the Czech Republic, e.g. at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago. A parent can make such declaration for his or her child according to Article 31 (5) of the Czech Citizenship Act.
