Ms. Vera Roknic, the symbol of Czech-American community in Chicago has passed away

Ms. Vera Roknic suddenly passed away yesterday, on November 5, 2015. She was an essential symbol of the Czech – American life in Chicago.

Dear friends,

To my great sadness, I have to share with you that  Ms. Vera Roknic suddenly passed away yesterday, on November 5, 2015. She was an essential symbol of the Czech – American life in Chicago.

Vera originally came from Prague and she moved to Chicago at the beginning of the 1950s. I had the great honor and pleasure to meet her ten years ago as a prominent representative of Sokol Tabor and Society of Arts and Sciences. I greatly admired her, her incredible kindness, wisdom and energy. Until yesterday, the age was no limit to her. She still went to excerise with Sokol Tabor on Wednesday.

The very sudden passing of Ms. Roknic has deeply saddened me. I am incredibly greatful for all the support I received from her after my arrival to Chicago. As the represenative of the Czech Republic in Chicago, I would like to thank her very much for her life long support of the Czech-American community in Chicago, of our country.

The last goodbye with Vera shall take place on November 15.

You can view a medalion about Ms. Vera Roknic on the website of the Czech and Slovak National Musem and Library in Cedar Rapids:  http://www.ncsml.org/exhibits/vera-roknic/

I would like to express my deepest condolences to Vera´s daughter Jana, son David as well as to all her other relatives and friends.
