This festival in the cities of Berwyn and Cicero   has a  very international character, thanks to the Czech past and Latino present.  You can see the well known Czech roots all over this are.

During the festival the street named after the former Chicago mayor Antonín Čermák – Cermak Road comes to life. You can find plenty of food stands and music stages here. There is even a Miss Houby Day pageant. The highlight of the festival is a few miles long  float parade with thousands of viewers. You can find important Illinois polititians among these viewers.

Chicagoland Czech American Comminty Center with their president Mr. Theodore Polashek

built a  large tent outside the CCACC on the occasion of the Houby Day festival offering Czech cousine  specialities, wine, beer and music by Czechoslovak Musicians Club brass band and Czechs in America folk group. Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago was distributing  brochures and giving information about the Czech Republic as well consular information.

 

The Consul General in Chicago, Mr. Borek Lizec and  his wife, Ms. Katerina Lizcova Kulhankova  accompanied by the world renowned opera star Adam Plachetka were also among those  who were  riding  on a float in the parade.

Sokol Tábor and T. G. Masaryk School were present in the parade too.
