48th Annual Houby Day Parade in Chicago Suburbs

Over the past weekend Chicago suburbs of Berwyn and Cicero welcomed over 25 000 attendees of the 48th Annual Houby Day parade.
The tradition of celebrating the end of the mushroom season was founded by Czechs which is very significant in the name of the festival. This festival has an international character nowadays since the cities of Berwyn and Cicero are populated by mainly Mexican community.
During the festival the main street – Cermak Road, named after the Mayor of Chicago, Anton Cermak, comes to life.
The parade with important Illinois polititians, floats and visitors standing and cheering along Cermak Road are the highlight of the program.
This year the parade was attended by the representatives of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, the Consul General Mr. Borek Lizec with his wife Katerina Kulhankova – Lizcova, Consul Mr. Tomas Trnka with his wife Jaroslava Trnkova, Martina East, Greg Fierro as well as the Chicagoland Czech-American Community Center, Sokol Tábor, T.G. Masaryk School, First Czechoslovak Garden Club of America and Theatre Bohemia.

Ted Polashek is running for a Mayor of Berwyn and was supported by a large numbe of local polititians , volunteers and friends.
