Vendulka: Flight to Freedom

Photographs by Jan Lukas helped to reveal the story of Vendulka V, a Jewish girl who survived the horrors of Auschwitz. These photographs were discovered by journalist Ondřej Kundra after many decades. After almost eighty years, Vendulka told reporters about her turbulent life, her escape to the United States from the communist regime, and her friendship with a photographer Jan Lukas. The book Vendulka: Flight to Freedom was written based on a true story and with the support of Czech Centers, the traveling exhibition The Second Life of Vendulka V was created.
Vendulka: Flight for freedom
Writer and journalist Ondřej Kundra will personally present his book at several events during his visits to Chicago.
His first stop to present his book will be at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (9603 Woods Dr., Skokie, IL 60077) on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 1 p.m.
It is necessary to register for the event in advance. More information including reservations can be found here.
The next stop of Ondřej Kundra will be at the T. G. Masaryk Czech School (5701 W 22nd Place, Cicero, IL 60804), where not only the presentation of the book Vendulka: Flight to Freedom will take place on April 28, 2022, but also a discussion on Putin & the Russian War in Ukraine.

The author's last stop will be at the University of Chicago, International House Assembly Hall (1414 East 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637) on Friday, April 29, 2022. The exhibition of photographs The Second Life of Vendulka V. will start at 5.30 pm, the discussion with the author will follow at 6 pm.
Pre-registration for this event is not required, but is recommended.
