Doosan Škoda Power begins on-site implementation of its first steam turbine in Michigan

Doosan Skoda Power company, a Czech-based manufacturer of steam turbines, starts in September with an on-site implementation of its first steam turbine in the US in a new gas-firedpower plant in Lansing, Michigan. The contract to supply a steam turbine generator with Board of Water & Light (BWL) was signed at the end of 2018.

This is the Czech company’s first project in the United States. The new power plant is part of BWL’s plan to be coal-free by 2025. The Doosan´s steam turbine DST-S10 (80 MW) will be installed in the new combined cycle power plant with a total output of 250 MW and will be built at the site of the coal-fired Erickson Power Plant. The turbine was manufactured in Pilsen and will be put into commercial operation in fall 2021.

Our success in this demanding tender confirms top quality of our products and services on a global level. Our highly efficient turbine and its operational flexibility will help significantly reduce local emissions and ensure a reliable electricity supply for residents of the city of Lansing and its surroundings,” said in 2019 Vaclav Černý, Head of Sales – America at Doosan Skoda Power.

Already in 2018 Doosan Turbomachinery Services and Doosan Škoda Power also signed the contract with Cogeneration Venture, the operator of the power plant in Midland, Michigan, to supply GT11NM gas turbine new rotors, repairs and services for a large combined cycle power plant in the United States.

For the Pilsen turbine manufacturer, these two contracts not only create an opportunity to expand into the US market, but also further into the gas turbine segment in general.
