The Czech Republic, Slovakia and the United Kingdom Opened an Exhibition Titled "Reinhard Heydrich Assassination. The Death of the Holocaust Architect."

On May 25, 2022, the Permanent Representatives of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the United Kingdom inaugurated in the premises of the Council of Europe an exhibition on the occasion of the 80th anniversary since the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the so-called Acting Reich's Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, who inter alia prepared the Kristallnacht in 1938, organized the Einsatzgruppen on the Eastern front and chaired the Wannsee Conference. This exhibition was accompanied by the excerpts from a popular Czech comics on this topic created by Mr. Jiří Šimáček showing how history can be made attractive to the younger generation.
The Czech Ambassador Petr Válek briefly explained why such exhibition on a World War Two event is relevant not just to the concerned States, but also to the Council of Europe. In this context, he recalled the ECRI General Policy Recommendation No. 9 on preventing and combating Antisemitism, under which the governements of member States of the Council of Europe are supposed to "promote learning about the Holocaust". Furthermore, he expressed his belief that the story of Heydrich's assassination nowadays continues as a story of reconciliation between the Czechs and Germans, since the German President Frank-Walter Steinmaier himself paid tribute to the paratroopers in the Sts Cyril and Methodius Church last year. By this step - in the spirit of values of the Council of Europe Statute - the German President won the smpathy of the Czech public. The opening speeches were delivered also by the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Slovak Ambassador Oksana Tomová and the British Ambassador Sandy Moss.
