30th anniversary of the accession of the Czech Republic to the Council of Europe

On 28 June 2023, the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic celebrated, together with the Secretary-General and the diplomatic community in Strasbourg, the 30th anniversary of their membership in the Council of Europe. The admission to this international organization constituted for both States a significant step on their return to democratic Europe after four decades behind the iron curtain. Since then, both States have been able to make - with the support of the Council of Europe - a substantial progress in the protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
